We are Christian Encounters. You are invited to join us any Sunday. Meeting Time We meet on Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Meeting Location We are located in the Fairfax United Methodist Church, on the lower level, in the Multipurpose Room at the east end of the hallway. Membership Profile All adults are welcome. Our group includes married couples and singles of ages ranging from 20 something to retirement and beyond. Program Format Each week a different volunteer facilitator (teacher) leads a lesson that they have developed based on guidance from the Curriculum Committee. The lesson typically includes a presentation followed by (or combined with) class discussion. Most lesson facilitators are class members. Leadership Process Two members serve together as class coordinators for a one year term. They are selected by the active past coordinators. Current coordinators assign others members to operating committees such as Curriculum, Outreach, Membership, Fellowship and Caretakers. History Christian Encounters was founded in 1980 by a small group of young adults interesting in Church (Sunday) School participation beyond that of a spectator. The format of choosing different leaders each year and lesson facilitators each week (no one teaches over twice per year), was unique at that time and has continued to the present.
